On the OPEN MONUMENTS DAY, we are opening Balmoral Castle to the public and bringing its historic architecture to life once more: at 1.30 pm with a performance by the Ems Music School and at 3.30 pm with the voices of the vokalEMSemble, conducted by Jan Martin Chrost.
You can also explore an exhibition by Valentine Gardiennet on the ground floor of the villa, in which we explore the theme of humour – now and then – and, above all, in the form of (historical) puppet theatre. Puppetry also holds a prominent place in the history of the World Heritage site of Bad Ems: Max Jacob was born in Bad Ems in 1866. He was the founder of the Hohnstein Puppet Theatre, which enjoyed renown both throughout Germany and internationally – particularly thanks to its cheeky character Kasperle.
With this exhibition, we are already taking our first steps towards the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer 2027. Next year’s theme will be: ‘When you laugh anyway – humour, satire and deeper meaning’.
