Coexist / 2023

The annual theme of the artist residency at Balmoral Castle, “Coexist”, examines the conditions and possibilities of coexistence: the scholarship holders who moved into the castle used artistic and curatorial means to investigate living together and enduring the other (different views, ways of working, habits). They worked on topics such as non-human forms of collaboration, the coexistence of materials in a work, aesthetics as violence, simultaneities of past, present and future and the possibility of a communality that rejects the self.
