Application

The ARSB is not only a residency, but also an interface for awarding other Rhineland-Palatinate fellowships. Different requirements apply for the various grants and there are correspondingly different application forms.

Application procedure

All fellowships are advertised publicly.

It is not possible to apply for a Balmoral attendance fellowship and a grant from the Ministry for Family Affairs, Women, Culture and Integration in the same year. Applications for several fellowships in one year are also not permitted.

There is no legal entitlement to the award of a scholarship.
The decision on the awarding of the scholarship will not be explained to the applicants in writing, but will be communicated in writing, preferably by e-mail.

Unsuccessful applicants may not apply in the following year – not even for another fellowship. After three unsuccessful applications, no further applications are possible.

IMPORTANT: Since 2015, artists with a connection to Rhineland-Palatinate may apply three times for each state scholarship, i.e. three times for a project scholarship, three times for a Paris scholarship, etc. (including previous applications), but only every two years.
The award of a Balmoral fellowship or one from the Ministry for Family Affairs, Women, Culture and Integration in Rhineland-Palatinate precludes a new application in the following five years. An application is excluded if the same scholarship has already been awarded once.

The most common mistakes when applying:

  • No three years of artistic activity after graduation (for attendance scholarships)
The start of the scholarship is decisive
  • No two years of artistic activity after graduation (for scholarships at other residencies and for project scholarships)
The start of the grant is decisive
  • Bachelor’s degree
    Required degree: M.F.A. or comparable
  • Double application (for different scholarships)
  • Wrong topic (note the annual topic for attendance scholarships)
