In this solo exhibition, Florent Dubois invites the viewer into his world via works-in-progress created during his time in Bad Ems as a Burgund- Franche-Comté Artist Fellow in Residence. From whimsical figures out of children’s colouring books to chubby soft toys, these creatures form part of Dubois’ dreamy aesthetics of cuteness that reflect on the themes of childhood, nostalgia, and the power of the imagination to create queer, fantastical worlds. Toying with scale and perception, and being attentive to texture and materiality, Dubois’ artworks create an experience of ludic play, amusement and immersion, one that embraces the powers of kitsch and camp as modes of artistic experimentation.
