Kamogelo Walaza

Balmoral (4 months) curator 2026

Kamogelo Walaza is a curator, writer, ethnographer and programme manager born in Bloemfontein and based in Johannesburg. She holds two postgraduate degrees from Wits University and three degrees from the University of Johannesburg. Walaza received the Marshall Kander Drama for Life Award and completed a distinction-awarded autoethnographic paper, Memories in Her Blood. Her curatorial work includes exhibitions at Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Michaelis Gallery, and Nirox Sculpture Park, with contributions to FNB Art Joburg and Turbine Art Fair. She has held residencies at Bag Factory, Goethe-Institut, Secession Vienna, MuseumsQuartier Vienna, and Nirox and curated a solo exhibition with Sabelo Mlangeni. She was a Creative Knowledge Fellow in 2024 and a fellow at Secession Vienna in 2025. A 2024 Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South African, Walaza was shortlisted for the 2025 MTN x UJ New Contemporary Awards and the NIHSS Best Creative Collections Award. She is currently a member of the 2026 cohort at The Centre for the Less Good Idea for Tête-à-Tête Artist|Producers programme and leads her Curatorial Practice WALAZA’S PRACTICE.
