Luis Bruder

ARSB artist 2025

Luis Bruder (*1994) studied Art History and Cultural Studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, followed by Fine Arts at the Kunsthochschule Mainz and the Estonian Academy of Arts. In 2024, he graduated with a diploma from the Expanded Painting class of Prof. Shannon Bool. A central aspect of his work is the exploration of an extensive collection of found images, which he examines for symbols, forms, and media-aesthetic phenomena. His works often incorporate content from consumer worlds or media-shaped realities, appropriating and manipulating visual material. The production process involves both analog and digital intermediate steps, resulting in works that are typically paintings or other two-dimensional image carriers. His interest lies in the contemporary handling of images – their reproducibility, circulation, and simultaneity – their impact on cognition, and how they constitute ideology.
