On August 29 at 7 pm, the artist duo Emalohi Iruobe & Adey Omotade will be showing their film *“Fọlárìn Fifáṣẹ̀ṣe- walk with dignity, let your ancestors guide you ‘* (German: “Geh mit Würde, lass dich von deinen Vorfahren leiten”) at the Artists Residency Schloss Balmoral. The recordings, an audiovisual work of art, touch on themes such as myth, ritual and memory and were created from the guest artists’ recent experiences during their road trip through Germany. Emalohi Iruobe & Adey Omotade draw on spiritual Yoruba techniques in their art to raise questions of identity and belonging, present and future, and to shift the posts of our history a little. In essence, they are interested in examining the conditions for hybridity and diversity in Germany. In view of the ongoing cultural and social fragmentation, the duo is looking for “reparative spaces of possibility and security”. The audiovisual contribution in the castle is rooted in indigenous traditions of paying homage to ancestors and remembering all People of Color who have endured centuries of violence in order to imagine a present and future based on collective liberation, joy, abundance and well-being.
The artist Emalohi Iruobe founded the Tribe XX Lab in Nigeria, a civil society space for critical reflection, learning and action to combat all forms of violence and oppression against women and girls. Adey Omotade works at the intersection of sound design, video and experimental music. His Yoruba roots form the basis for exploring archives, oral histories and traditions to develop new narratives about origin, migration, ecology and identity.
