With striking images and haunting personal stories, the documentary film follows women in Rojava, an autonomous region in northern Syria. Despite ongoing conflicts, deep-rooted patriarchal structures, and political repression, the women advocate for self-determination – in everyday life, in cooperatives, in farming, and in classrooms. Whether it is Sidan, who juggles several jobs as an English teacher, or Jehan, who passes on handicraft skills and creates spaces for community – they all embody the quiet but determined resistance against oppression. Director Robert Krieg captures moments of survival, solidarity, and hope, telling the story of a social change taking place away from the world’s attention – carried out by women who are taking the change into their own hands.
